Meet the Green Warriors Behind India’s Miyawaki Forest Movement

Across Indian cities, once-barren urban lots are transforming into dense micro-forests, thanks to passionate volunteers reviving neglected land using the Miyawaki method. These “green warriors” work with local schools, residents, and city councils to plant thousands of native trees in tiny plots, restoring biodiversity and bringing down urban heat. This World Environment Day, we celebrate the everyday citizens turning grey spaces green, one forest at a time.
